Craig Kielburger
Chair of the Board of Directors of Kids Can Free the Children
and Co-Founder of Leaders Today
When Craig was 12 years old, he read about a boy in Pakistan
who had been sold as a slave, escaped, and later killed for
speaking out in defense of child labour. Feeling both upset
and inspired by the story, he and some friends formed Free
the Children, and Craig, now 20, has traveled to countries
all over the world speaking in defense of children's rights,
especially child labour and poor living conditions. Free the
Children is unique among organizations around the world because
it is children and youth helping children; today over 100,000
children in 35 countries are involved!
Among many other things, Craig is a chairperson for the Commission
on Globalization (with Mikhail Gorbachev) and he received
the 2001 Peace Leadership Award from the Nuclear Age Peace
Foundation. To find out more about Free the Children, go to
www.freethechildren.com. Or, to take part in a Youth Leadership
Workshop from Craig and his brother Marc, go to www.leaderstoday.com.
